Cannobio (Piedmont) is one of the most attractive towns on the western shores of Lake Maggiore and is towards the northern end of the lake near Switzerland. Cannobio has one of the finest promenades on Lake Maggiore. Some of the buildings on the lakefront and further back in the old part of town date over 600 years. The promenade is divided into three sections. The middle section is where you’ll find many bars and restaurants where you can relax and take in the spectacular view of the lake. You can also enjoy a stroll through the narrow and cobbled streets to pick up a few treasures in the many shops or just do some window shopping.

Luino – From Palaces to Paleontology
Find treasures galore at the Wednesday Street Market

Luino is located at the end of Valtravaglia and is the most important city on the Lombard shore of Lake Maggiore. You’ll be delighted by its ascending streets, Renaissance and Baroque palaces, as well as many craft shops and stores. Take a stroll down the glorious lakeside promenade and enjoy the balance of style in the architecture of the buildings surrounding the old Napoleonic harbour. On your stroll, your view will include the Church of Madonna del Carmine (15th century), the private chapel of the House of Serbelloni (18th century) and adjacent palace, and Palazzo Verbania, which is home to the library and Civic Museum of Archaeology and Paleontology. The highlight of Luino is the Wednesday Street Market, where vendors from all over Italy, Germany, and Switzerland come together. With over 350 stalls filled with everything from handmade goods to a delicious assortment of local foods, you may need to visit weekly to take in everything this market has to offer.
